Korte inhoud van de lezing:
Self-healing coatings
Have you ever scratched the paint of your car? Or the shiny cover of your mobile phone? Have you ever wished it would “disappear”, that is “self-heal”?
In Nature, animals and plants recover from damages through complex self-healing mechanisms triggered by external or internal-stimuli. In a similar way, the damage inflicted into the coatings that protect and decorate our materials, can be considerably reduced through the introduction of self-repairing mechanisms which can recover the chemical and/or physical properties of the material. This lecture will explain some of the most common self-healing principles investigated for coatings and show illustrative examples from academic research and industrial applications.
